Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Of course I'm far from an expert on Lopetegui and can only base my opinion on what I've seen and read. I didn't like the fella at Wolves - just didn't like the cut of his jib - a view that was shared by many Wolves fans, seemingly along with fans of every other club he's managed.

I'm not sure how the fact he's been sacked from every club he's managed, bar Wolves, translates into anything other than a dubious CV and as far as putting his faith in youth is concerned, from what I've read that couldn't be farther from the truth. It probably stems from his time as the U19-U21 coach in Spain where he had generational talent at his disposal.

But we all know Sullivan will revel in appointing an ex-Spain and Real Madrid manager and the fact that he's out of work makes this even more likely.

Would I prefer him to Moyes? Well, yes. Do I want him? Absolutely not. Anyone who wins just 6 out of 14 games with a Madrid team packed with superstars and had fans of the mighty Wolves cheering his departure wouldn't be my first choice

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
I was thinking Lopetegui was too old, then I realised he's only 5 months older than me. He also gets a good rap from Dawson. So whilst he's not the kind of manager I was hoping for, I'd be happy enough.
I was really hoping Howe or Pochettino would become available.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert on Lop, or indeed many coaches, as some on here appear to be, but I'm not against the appointment if it happened. Yes, I'd prefer a younger coach, but he does seem a 'young' 57 year old, maybe it's the dyed hair, but he's trim and looks full of energy. Clearly a smart bloke who most likely knows the (modern) game inside and out, will likely work 24x7 and seems hungry to succeed with a point to prove, where with Moyes you sometimes wonder if he even likes football, he seems to know fuck all about fuck all listening to his pressers.

Craig Dawson says Lopetegui is a tactical genius so that’s good enough for me chaps!
Mr Moyes is certainly not one of those so the sooner the jock leaves the building the better.

I’ve been listening to Martin Kellner on Talksport overnight and discovered he is a West Ham fan born in Yorkshire. His daughter Martha is a Sky reporter in the USA and she is absolutely superb. Every time something bad happens over there, she is on the spot within a few hours!

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
If it does end up being Lopetegui, I reckon many fans who ain't sure about him now will eventually be pleasantly surprised. He's certainly not a boring manager that plays mind numbing Football. Far from it in fact. He wouldn't be my 1st choice but I'm definitely for Lopetegui over Moyes. Give him time, supported in the market and he will do well for us, both style wise and results wise in the League.

He clearly works well with youngsters too and knows how to develop them with his time as the U19 and U21 winning Teams he managed. If we do have gems knocking about in our Academy, then he wouldn't be afraid to play and coach them.

It's Lopetegui according to the bookies. 2/1 this morning, 1/3 now.

Southgate has an impressive win ratio with England and the U21's, but I wouldn't want him either.

Ffs... as I'm sure you well know I mentioned O'Neil purely because his record with a clearly inferior Wolves squad was better than Lopetegui's

Until or unless he manages Real Madrid or Sevilla or the Spanish national team the direct comparisons will have to end there I'm afraid.

I get it, you're keen on him

So then multiple top 4 finishes and a European trophy put Lopetegui miles ahead of Gary O’Neil.

Not to mention going a couple of years unbeaten as Spain manager.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Nah. I'd be more inclined to look at the multiple trophy wins versus the one Europa League rather than the marginal 1% difference over 35 or so fewer games, but each to their own

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Lopetegui has a better win % at Seville than Emery.
Does that make him the better manager?

Yeah I'm not sure that Moyes' league stats in 2022/23 should be a benchmark for anything positive

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Onsideman - well 37% isn't bad at all for a team that was bottom, but my point was he isn't worse than Moyes. Seeing as Moyes percentage would have been a fair bit lower over the same time.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
I still think it will be Amorim or Fonseca or a left field choice.

Either way my guess is it depends on who will allow Steidten to control / have a big say in the transfers.

Lopetegui won’t be a Steidten choice but it might work if he allows Steidten to buy and sell. .

No English / British manager will want a Steidten type in his ear.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?

37% win percentage with a Wolves squad who should never have been in that position in the first place. So not as good as O'Neil despite the latter losing Neves, Nunes, Collins, Traore, Jiminez, Podence, Moutinho etc

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
I don't want this bloke but he isn't that bad at all..

Was hardly average at Wolves.. Ask any team who are bottom with 23 games to go if they'd take a manager who would win 9 of their last 23 and move them 7 places up the table, they'd all take that.

His Wolves out performed us and our shit manager... So also not sure how that makes him worse than Moyes... I'd definitely have him if it was a straight choice between the two of them.. 20 games as Spain manager 16 wins and 4 draws and didn't get sacked for his football..

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
I sincerely hope Lopetegui is a smokescreen

Not quite sure how he originally got the Porto job given that he'd only coached at second team level, but was underwhelming and fired having been given the biggest budget in their history.

Inherited a generational Spain team so unbeaten in 20 before getting sacked mid-tournament for agreeing to join Madrid.

Sacked by Madrid for being second best in a 2 team league

Decidedly average at Wolves

I can't think why any owner would appoint him. Actually, scrap that. Unemployed for 9 months and cheap

Milan fans had a petition. We should do likewise
